Ask Shopify's AI agent about inventory, discounts, or sales trends, and it answers in seconds. Ask it why a shipment is late, and it goes quiet — not because the AI is weak, but because the data it needs still isn't inside its reach.

Sidekick got good, fast
Shopify's AI agent has become one of the most-used features in the admin. It writes product descriptions, drafts marketing copy, answers analytics questions, and builds simple automations — all from a plain-English chat box, no digging through menus required.
That's a real shift. For years, ecommerce dashboards were something merchants had to search through. Sidekick flipped that: instead of finding the answer, merchants just ask for it.
The wall just moved — it didn't disappear
Sidekick isn't as walled off as it used to be. Since June, Shopify has let outside apps plug directly into Sidekick through something called App Extensions — ask about a Klaviyo email campaign or a loyalty program, and Sidekick can now pull that in and even take action, no tab-switching required.
Look at the actual list of connected apps, though, and one category is missing entirely. Sidekick now reaches marketing tools (Klaviyo), customer apps (Loop, Judge.me, Smile), promotions, products, and store operations — 18 launch partners in total. Not one shipping or carrier app is on that list — no UPS, no FedEx, no fulfillment platform, despite "Orders and shipping" being a real category on Shopify's own App Store.
Ask Sidekick which products are low on stock, and it nails it — that's Shopify's own data. Ask it why shipments are running late this week, and it hits a wall immediately, because that answer still lives in a carrier portal and a fulfillment tool Sidekick can't reach.
The problem was never that Sidekick isn't smart enough. It's that nobody has connected it to the one category of data that actually answers a delivery question.
What 5 steps look like next to 1 answer
Here's the same question, solved two different ways — the way most merchants do it today, and a look at what it could feel like once real shipping and carrier data actually reaches the agent asking on their behalf.

This is the layer we've been building
FenixCommerce's Shipping Intelligence exists for exactly this gap — accurate, real-time delivery and carrier data, structured so an agent like Sidekick, or any AI layer sitting in the admin, can actually query it and get a real answer back, not a guess dressed up as one.
Whether it's a customer checking out or a merchant's own AI asking a question, the data underneath has to hold up either way. That's the same principle we've written about on the customer-facing side — just pointed inward this time, at the people running the store instead of the people shopping in it.
Where this goes next
Shopify's own numbers show adoption still accelerating — daily active merchants using Sidekick up 3.6x year over year, with new third-party apps connecting every month. As that list grows, the merchants who benefit most won't be the ones with the flashiest AI. They'll be the ones whose shipping and carrier data was actually ready for an agent to use — the one category nobody's connected yet.
That's the layer we're focused on — so when the question is "why is this shipment late" or "how many orders are at risk this week," the answer is already there, waiting to be asked.
